Swaplets are cool, trendy bracelets you collect and exchange with new friends you make at festivals, parks or concerts. Rather than exchanging phone numbers, you swap bracelets. Each swap adds the person as a 'contact' on your home page, hosted by the event organizers. Swapltes is a platform for creating event/location based virtual communities.
Initially you receive 20 swaplets with your personal ID. When you meet someone you would like to keep in touch with, you exchange swaplets. When you leave the premise, your collection of swaplets is scanned, and links between you and your new friends are created.
The swaplets were originally designed for a water-park environment, where mobile phones, or pen and paper are not that handy.
The solution works using RFID technology, bracelets embedded with RFID tags, and readers placed at the exits.
